The Rules as Tactical Tools
The Rules as Tactical Tools is an in-depth look at tactical positioning at key areas around the race course (upwind & downwind legs, at marks and at starts), with an analysis of the important rules to know in each. Dave includes spectacular video of many of the tactical situations he discusses. Common scenarios are analyzed from the perspective of each boat. You’ll see how to play through the moves and counter-moves to get to your best solution. This is an enjoyable and educational presentation for all levels and types of racers and race officials.
Session 1: Upwind Tactics
How hard can it be? There are only two choices: Keep going or tack.
In Session 1 of the North U Rules as Tactical Tools we’ll analyze Upwind Rules and Tactics and discuss how to position yourself versus rivals to create opportunities to gain while minimizing potential losses. You’ll learn tactical positioning across the fleet, and how to attack and defend in one-on-one battles.

Session 2: Downwind Tactics
In Session Two of the North U Rules as Tactical Tools Webinar we turn downwind and explore reaching and running tactics. Now the trailing boats attack and leaders defend! We’ll look at how to attack, how to defend, and how to extend.

You’ll see how a clear understanding of the rules can pay big dividends as the crowds converge at each rounding.
This segment will include a variety of common scenarios and will review the rights and obligations of each boat as the situations evolve. You’ll leave with an understanding of mark rounding priorities that will allow you to quickly assess any situation.
